Why Do We Love Romantic Films?

There’s just something about a great love story that can warm even the coldest of hearts. Maybe it’s the hope that true love does exist or maybe it’s because we can all relate to the highs and lows of falling in and out of love. Whatever the reason, there’s no denying that we just can’t get enough of romantic films.

As statistic says, romantic films are one of the most, if not the most popular genres at the box office. Some of the highest-grossing films of all time are romantic comedies or dramas. For example, Titanic, which is often cited as the biggest box office hit of all time, is a love story.

Top 6 Romantic Comedies by Appliance Repair Technician

So what are some of the most romantic films ever made by Kevin? Curl up with your special someone and enjoy one (or all) of these great movies. Here are six of his favorites:

Gone With the Wind

Arguably one of the most iconic love stories of all time, Gone with the Wind tells the story of Scarlett O’Hara and her tumultuous relationships with Ashley Wilkes and Rhett Butler against the backdrop of the American Civil War. A true epic in every sense of the word, Gone with the Wind is a must-see for any film fan, romantic or otherwise.

Casablanca

Another old Hollywood classic, Casablanca is the story of Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), a world-weary ex-patriate who runs a nightclub in Morocco during World War II.

When Rick’s long-lost love, Ilsa Lund, walks into his club one night with her husband, Victor Laszlo—a leader of the Czech Resistance—Rick must choose between his love for Ilsa and his sense of duty to help Victor escape from the Nazis.

Featuring Humphrey Bogart in his most iconic role, Casablanca is a timeless tale of love and sacrifice that continues to resonate with audiences today.

The Notebook

If you’re looking for a more modern take on romance, look no further than The Notebook. Based on Nicholas Sparks’s best-selling novel of the same name, The Notebook tells the story of Noah Calhoun and Allie Nelson, two young lovers whose relationship is tested by class differences and World War II.

The film culminates in an unforgettable reunion that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled.

The Princess Bride

On the surface, The Princess Bride may not seem like a particularly romantic film. However, beneath its comedic exterior beats the heart of a true love story. The Princess Bride follows Westley—a smart but humble farm boy—as he sets out to save his one true love, Buttercup, from an arranged marriage to Prince Humperdinck. Along the way, he must contend with bandits, giants, and shrieking eels…and true love always finds a way to prevail in the end.

When Harry Met Sally

And last but not least we have When Harry Met Sally… Arguably one of the most quotable films of all time, When Harry Met Sally…tells the story (or “anti-story”) of Harry Burns and Sally Albright—two friends who slowly fall in love over several years despite their insistence that men and women can’t be friends. Hilarious and heartwarming in equal measure, When Harry Met Sally…is essential viewing for any romantic comedy fan.

Pretty Woman

If you’re in the mood for a feel-good romantic comedy, look no further than Pretty Woman. The film follows Vivian Ward, a down-on-her-luck prostitute hired by wealthy businessman Edward Lewis to be his escort for several business and social functions.

Throughout their time together, the two come to form a deep bond that goes far beyond their initial business arrangement. Featuring a memorable performance by Julia Roberts, Pretty Woman is a fun and feel-good film that will leave you with a smile on your face.
