A properly chosen movie can not only inspire and motivate but also suggest the viewer how to get out of the most hopeless situations. We have selected several films that are recommended for watching if you need inspiration.

Joy (2015)

The plot is based on the real story of the creator of Ingenious Designs, Joy Mangano, who invented the self-squeezing mop. Despite financial difficulties, family turmoil, and betrayal, Joy never stops believing in her entrepreneurial potential. Her main dream is to break out of the routine and achieve a vocation.

This dream turns an ordinary girl into the founder of a huge business dynasty. As the film demonstrates, almost every nascent business idea is necessarily tested not only by the world of commerce but also by the circle of those closest to you. The main thing is to be ready for this and continue to implement your ideas.

The Pursuit of Happiness (2006)

This is one of the most memorable pictures starring Will Smith: single father Chris Gardner, wanting to provide his son with everything, unsuccessfully visits clinics in an attempt to sell portable densitometers.

Almost giving up, he takes an unpaid six-month internship at a brokerage company – the only hope to get out of the financial hole. A very motivating movie that strengthens the viewer’s opinion: only desire and systematic work can lead to the success of any project.

The Man Who Changed Everything (2011)

The story of the general manager of the Oakland baseball team, Billy Bean, who, for saving the team, finds a unique and mathematically proven solution: he starts buying “inexpensive” baseball players, each of whom is good in only one parameter and builds a dream-team out of them. The title of the film speaks for itself: don’t be afraid to be a pioneer and change the rules of the game. Even with a minimum of resources, you can always find an effective solution to a problem.

This film is especially relevant for entrepreneurs, as it clearly demonstrates what and how to do. When selecting a company and forming a successful team – in sports or in business – there are two main strategies: rely on intuition, trying to find a future star through inner feelings, or use the magic of numbers and statistics; build a system based on data analysis and hypothesis testing through experiments. Only this approach shows which methodologies are best suited for which companies and lead to a predictable result.

Middle men (2009)

The plot is based on the biography of Christopher Mallick, the founder of the billing system for paying for porn sites. In parallel, the viewer meets Jack Harrison, an exemplary family man, and an exemplary father, who gets a job as a manager in the protagonist’s company.

Untrained Jack faces a world of swindlers, terrorists, nymphomaniacs, and FBI agents. The secret of the film’s value is that it is an excellent tool for negotiation and for gaining the ability to resolve conflicts between people with different interests.

Social network (2010)

The film not only tells the story of the creation of Facebook but also intertwines three storylines of fellow Harvard students. Eduardo Severin is in business for profit, Sean Parker, a future Facebook consultant, thinks in the same way, paying attention to self-promotion and social life.

Mark Zuckerberg, unlike his colleagues, sees in his product a way not just to improve his social status, but to confirm his idea. The picture is an indicative business case: the viewer observes relations with investors, partners, competitors, lawyers, and ex-girls, but the main value of the Social Network is the disclosure of the psychology of entrepreneurship of the new era.

Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)

Released more than two decades ago, the film shows the vicious world of real estate dealers fighting for clients. This is a good example of how to sell your product and what factors to consider on the road to success. One of the most revealing business cases in the film is the presentation of manager Alec Baldwin, who came to BMW to raise the spirits of employees in times of crisis.

Glengarry Glen Ross is a tough movie about motivation and goal achievement. It is never easy. The film also embodies the collision of the idea of startups with the harsh reality. You can literally take it apart into quotes, hang them in front of your eyes and look at them every time it seems to you that a client, investor, or accelerator instructor did something unfair to you.

Revolutionary OS (2001)

This film is a nice trip into the history of the creation of operating systems GNU, GLP, Linux. In the film, the founders of Open Source talk about the emergence of the concept of free software. “Revolutionary OS” is an excellent guide to developing a business model and further proof that a project’s mission is one of the main factors of its competitiveness.
