Nikolay Dybowski from Ice-Pick Lodge (“Mor”, “Turgor”) kindly agreed to show us the innermost – his favorite songs. But before we get to the playlist: a few questions about music.
Now you are probably all at a distance, but when you worked in the office – what kind of musical atmosphere reigned there? Has it ever happened that not everyone listens to something in their headphones, but turns it on for everyone?
From 2001 to 2010, we had a rule: from 11 to 19 working days, and after seven you can do whatever you want. Drinking, bringing friends, laughing with the girls (who burst into the studio somewhere at the same time), listening to loud music, generally leading a bright life. At first I put my playlist, no one objected. Then, since 2006, when younger guys appeared in the studio – they put on their own things. Very interesting music, unfamiliar.
How much do you think music influences creativity?
More than anything else.
What kind of music do you prefer to walk to? Or maybe go somewhere?
Depends on the mood. I can under Chopin, I can under Led Zeppelin, and I can under the Irish Clannad or under the communist zones of Ernst Bush. But I’ve already lived a long life, music works like a collection of stamps – you get not so much a mood as a memory of an episode that this music triggers.
Has it ever happened that a particular composition helped you make an important decision on a particular game? Maybe gameplay or storyline.
“Turgor” came up with the whole thing in one second, while listening to Paint It, Black.
Is there a song that triggered a near-religious experience for you? Or did it work somehow differently, strange?
I do not want to talk about religion, at this moment in my life this topic is extremely unpleasant for me. But this is personal. My answer is no.
The most important question, not about music anymore: what is your favorite beer?
In general, now I drink only white wine, but before all I loved the authentic Guinness and drank only it. Sometimes he could drink twelve or fifteen pints in one sitting.
Okay, here’s the most important one: what are you listening to right now answering this question?
Your imaginary voice. Speech is also a form of music, and very curious to the touch.
